Easy first steps to help you with brushing your pet’s teeth:
- Place a small amount of pet toothpaste on your finger or on the toothbrush and allow your pet to lick it as a treat. You can also gently introduce a finger into their mouth with the toothpaste and rub the gums. Give them lots of praise for being so good!
- Place the pet toothpaste on a cotton swab or finger brush and rub along the gum line. This will get them used to the feel of something in their mouth. Once comfortable with this step, you can continue with the finger brush or try a small soft toothbrush. We also carry Dentacetic wipes that you can wrap around your finger for brushing.
Although brushing is the most effective of all the tools available, you can consider other dental hygiene aids. We carry a small selection of other pet dental health items and free samples are always available. Remember to only use pet toothpaste, as human toothpaste is not meant to be swallowed. If your pet refuses the toothpaste, you can try using chicken or beef broth for it is the brushing action at the gum line that provides the most benefit.
