Each year, National Dental Health Month is a good reason to discuss the importance of dental health in pets. We see our pets each and every day, but few of us regularly look at their teeth or would know how to evaluate for signs of dental disease. An oral exam by a veterinarian is part of good preventative care, and is recommended at least once yearly, or sooner if you have any concerns. We monitor tartar buildup, gum health, look for fractured teeth and any other abnormalities, and advise when it is appropriate to proceed with a dentistry (oral exam, cleaning, and dental xrays under anesthesia).
For more information on dentistry, please see our handout on Dentistry FAQs, If you think it’s time for your dog or cat to have an oral exam, please call us to schedule an appointment.
